DELEGATE TO RELIABLE HELPERS.
BMW ConnectedDrive driver assistance systems in the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé.
Numerous innovative technologies support you during travel in a range of different ways, guaranteeing top-class comfort and safety. This means you can focus on what really matters − carefree driving pleasure.
DRIVING ASSIST PLUS.
Driving Assist Plus not only includes the Driving Assist systems, Lane Departure Warning, and approach control and person warning with light city braking function, but also the active cruise control with Stop&Go function for additional comfort.
Active Cruise Control maintains a speed determined by the driver, as well as the distance to the car ahead, at speeds of up to 210 km/h. In slow-moving traffic or traffic jams, the vehicle takes over accelerating and braking, and the selected distance to the car ahead is maintained down to a stop. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach Warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning icon is first displayed, then the icon begins flashing and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the car brakes firmly.
BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all information relevant to the journey directly into the driver's field of vision, allowing them to fully concentrate on driving.
Data such as speed is displayed, along with navigation tips, Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator, telephone and entertainment lists, and information and warnings from the various driver assist systems.
The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and in full colour. The image's projection appears as if it were 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This, in combination with optimal positioning, allows the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction.
The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, with different displays for day and night, and the height of the display can also be adjusted. Furthermore, the driver can also select which information to display in addition to the current speed and warnings from the driver assist systems.

PARKING ASSIST.
The Park Assist makes parallel parking easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Park Assist takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals. This means the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.
BMW NIGHT VISION WITH PERSON RECOGNITION.
BMW Night Vision with person recognition provides the driver with a range of vision that well exceeds the beam of light from the headlights, making it possible to identify people and large animals from a significant distance at night.
An infrared camera mounted on the BMW kidney grille transmits images from the front of the vehicle onto the Control Display. This allows the driver to identify people and animals at a distance of up to about 300 m.
While taking account of the vehicle speed and steering angle, the system also calculates whether the identified objects pose a risk. In the event of acute danger, a flashing red icon (animal or person) is displayed in the video image and in the BMW Head-Up Display. An acoustic alarm is also sounded and the brakes are primed for optimum readiness.
This warning system is automatically activated when the vehicle is started. In the event of danger, the system even emits a warning when the imaging display has not been activated. BMW Night Vision with person recognition is an innovation from BMW ConnectedDrive.
BMW SELECTIVE BEAM.
With BMW Selective Beam, driving at night is safer and more comfortable. It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers.
The system detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the High-Beam headlight distribution. A beam range of 400 m ensures early detection of risks.
SURROUND VIEW.
Surround View includes the Top View, Side View and Rear View camera-based functions. Cameras in the exterior mirrors and the Rear View camera provide a 270° view around the vehicle.
Top View displays the areas on the side of the car for more convenient manoeuvring. The Side View makes navigating areas with low visibility like exits or confusing intersections safer. Two digital cameras on the left and right of the front of the car capture the traffic situation in front of the vehicle. This enables early detection of oncoming traffic so that the driver can react appropriately. The Side View function is automatically deactivated when the car reaches 15 km/h. The driver can choose to activate the Rear View camera, Top View or Side View.
The camera systems are activated when the car is put into reverse or the PDC button or Side View button is pressed. The image is shown on the Control Display.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL WITH IDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.
The Navigation System Professional features a sleek design and a superior range of services: The easy-to-use navigation system is perfectly integrated into the iDrive Controller and Control Display operation concepts. The system comprises the hands-free facility with USB interface and voice control, the Radio BMW Professional with DVD drive, as well as a 20 GB memory for audio files. Additionally, online alternative routes can be displayed, including a music database. The most popular POIs (points of interest) are listed as a symbol (petrol station, hotel, etc.) according to search frequency in the POI menu. A fixed, high-resolution 10.25" colour display with split-screen function guarantees optimal readability and clarity.
Its intuitive operation is carried out using the iDrive Touch Controller, whose touch-sensitive surface allows the driver to easily enter destination addresses using their handwriting. Alternatively, the system can also be operated via direct menu control buttons, the eight functional bookmarks or voice control. Thanks to the three-dimensional map display including satellite images as a map background – with photo-realistic depictions of selected sights – navigation becomes an exciting visual experience.
Navigation System Professional.
iDrive Touch Controller
The iDrive Touch Controller (part of the navigation system Professional) enables the Control Display to be conveniently operated with a single hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated into the Controller, it is easy to enter information such as destinations for the navigation system in handwriting.
The Controller can also be rotated and pressed to access many functions, change various settings and scroll through lists. It can be easily and intuitively operated, as it is based on one's sense of touch. This makes life especially easy for the driver since it keeps distraction from traffic to an absolute minimum. All functions operated using the Controller can be viewed clearly in the Control Display.
