DRIVING ASSIST.

The Driving Assist package combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and approach control and person warning with light city braking function.

The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the indicator has been activated.

Whereas the Approach control warning with light city braking function detects vehicles, the Person warning with light city braking function reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the new BMW 3 Series responds immediately when the Approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins flashing and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The person warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.

ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP&GO FUNCTION.

Active cruise control with Stop&Go function, incl. radar-based Approach control warning with full deceleration function and braking offers the option of greater comfort and safety in traffic jams. The system maintains a speed preselected by the driver, as well as the distance to the driver ahead. The vehicle takes over accelerating and braking and keeps the predetermined distance to the car ahead even in slow-moving traffic and down to a stand-still in traffic jams. If the car approaches the vehicle ahead of it, or if another vehicle enters the lane, the system precisely adjusts the speed to take the other vehicle into account. It can be activated at speeds of up to 210 km/h.

The Stop&Go function not only automatically regulates speed down to standstill, it also automatically accelerates back up to the desired speed within a limited time frame as soon as traffic flow allows.

If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach control warning is activated. The system operates in phases. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins to flash and an acoustic warning is sounded, and finally the brakes are applied sharply.

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.

The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all information relevant to the journey directly into the driver's field of vision, allowing them to fully concentrate on driving. The display includes data such as the current speed and – depending on the equipment – navigation tips, Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator, telephone and entertainment lists, along with information and warnings from the various driver assist systems.

The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and in full colour. The image's projection appears as if it were approx. 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This, in combination with optimal positioning, allows the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction.

The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, with different displays for day and night, and the height of the display can also be adjusted. Furthermore, the driver can also select which information to display in addition to the current speed and warnings from the driver assist systems.

PARKING ASSIST.

Intelligent systems for easier manoeuvring in and out of parking spaces are available as an option for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan. Useful assistance such as the Rear view camera, Parking assist and Surround View increase comfort in all parking
situations – and in particular in tight spaces and circumstances in which your view is restricted.

LANE CHANGE WARNING.

At speeds of 20 km/h or more, the radar-based Lane Change Warning detects approaching vehicles in the blind spot as well as vehicles in the neighbouring lane. The driver is alerted to the presence of vehicles in the critical zone by a triangular warning symbol on the exterior mirrors. If, in spite of this, the driver indicates the intention to change lanes by activating the indicator, they are alerted to the danger of the situation by a vibration in the steering wheel and a flashing triangular warning symbol on the exterior mirrors.

SPEED LIMIT INFO.

Safety comes first with Speed Limit Info. It shows the current speed limit in the instrument cluster. This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster. A camera integrated into the rear-view mirror detects relevant traffic signs. A control unit then processes and displays this information together with data from the navigation system. By utilising other features in the car, even variable speed limits, such as those that apply during wet conditions or at certain times of day, can sometimes also be shown.

BMW SELECTIVE BEAM.

BMW Selective Beam (anti-dazzle high beam assist) makes driving at night more comfortable and safer. It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers. The system detects other road users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution. A beam range of 400 m ensures early detection of risks and improved directional tracking.
